Robust FFT-3 standard batten system

Robust Detail FFT-3 resilient composite battens systems can be used in E-FC-1, E-FC-2, E-FC-7, E-FS-1, separating floors.

The acoustic battens must achieve a minimum laboratory performance of rd∆Lw=17dB.

Resilient battens must have a continuous pre-bonded layer with a minimum height of 45mm.

One advantage of Robust Detail FFT-3 Resilient Composite Batten systems is that services can be installed between battens. However they must not bridge the resilient layer on the battens.

Robust Detail FFT-3 resilient composite battens must be overlaid with an 18mm (min) tongued and grooved board. This is usually chipboard but can be plywood or engineered hardwood flooring.

A 5mm (min) resilient flanking strips is required around the perimeter of the flooring board to isolate the floating floor from walls and skirting.

It is important that the manufacturers’ recommendations are adhered to for batten centres. Please contact us for further advice on 01204 548 400.

As with any robust detail the correct external wall, separating wall internal wall and ceiling detail must be adhered to. The Robust Detail handbook should be consulted to ensure that the separating wall is compatible with the separating floor and vice versa. The Robust Detail checklist should be used to ensure that details are adhered to throughout each sequence of the build.

All acoustic battens used by JCW Acoustic Flooring have been tested in a UKAS accredited laboratory.

When installed correctly robust details should exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations.

With over 15 years of experience in installing all types of Robust Detail flooring solutions, JCW Acoustic Flooring have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that floating floors are installed correctly giving complete peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Robust Detail FFT-3 Standard Batten System achieve Part E of the Building Regulations?

Absolutely, if installed correctly, Robust Details should exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Buildings Regulations.

However, it is essential that installation instructions are followed to the letter.

Common installation mistakes include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing in incorrect temperatures and moisture levels
  • Installing on uneven floors
  • Installing on weakened existing joist structures and associated panels
  • Allowing the product or subfloor to become wet from leaks or rainfall
  • Carrying out drylining and skimming after installing acoustic flooring
  • Not leaving sufficient gaps between battens and walls
  • Incorrect positioning of chipboard flooring sheets

What does the Robust Detail FFT-3 Standard Batten System include?

Unlike the acoustic cradle system which comes in multiple parts, each standard batten system includes a wooden batten with a continuous pre-bonded layer of resilient foam.

Each batten will be between 45-50mm thick.

When installed, this foam and wood batten sits atop the sand and cement or screed, atop the concrete base floor.

You can call us on 01204 548 400 for specific, experience-based advice on your project’s requirements and to place an order.

Can I install services between the Robust Detail FFT-3 Standard Batten System?

One distinct advantage of the standard batten system is that services can be installed between the battens.

It is essential that when installing services, they do not bridge the resilient layer on the battens.

During installation, no mineral fibre quilt is required between the battens on an FFT-3 concrete floor, which speeds up installations.

For more information about the benefits of the Robust Detail FFT-3 Standard Batten System, you can email us, or call us on 01204 548 400, to chat with a member of our friendly, knowledgeable team directly.

Can we use the Robust Detail FFT-3 Standard Batten System on wooden floors?

The standard batten system is designed predominantly for concrete base floors but can also be used on flat timber for renovations. As such, the standard batten system can achieve compliance with Robust Details FF-3 when installed on concrete and flat timber floors.

This batten system is therefore ideal for the renovation and retrofit market, which is expected to become a much larger focus as the UK sets out to achieve ambitious green building targets.
