JCW80T Acoustic Battens are primarily used on timber sub-floors and can be used within new build projects and refurbishment projects.

The JCW80T Acoustic Batten System offers the ideal solution, whether working to Robust Details or Pre Completion Testing.

The JCW80T Acoustic Battens have a 10mm pre bonded resilient layer which is made from open cell, recycled polyurethane. Standard batten sizes are 80mm overall, however other battens sizes are available to suit any finished floor level that you may require.

The JCW80T Acoustic Batten System offers an exceptional reduction in impact sound and whilst still maintaining a high compressive strength.

One advantage of using the JCW80T Acoustic Batten is that services can be installed between battens. It is important however that services do not bridge the resilient layer on the battens.

JCW80T Acoustic battens can be overlaid with an 18mm (min) tongued and grooved board. This is usually chipboard but can be plywood or engineered hardwood flooring.

When installing the JCW80T acoustic batten system within a timber frame, a 25mm mineral wool and an additional layer of gypsum based board with a nominal mass of 13.5kg/m² is installed on top of battens prior to the 18mm (min) tongued and grooved board. This is done to add mass to the separating floor which improves airborne performance.

A 5mm (min) perimeter edge strip is required around the perimeter of the flooring board. This is to isolate the floating floor from walls and skirting.

For batten centres it is important that manufacturers recommendations are complied with. For further advice please call JCW on 01204 548 400.

All acoustic battens used by JCW Acoustic Flooring have been tested in a UKAS accredited laboratory.

When installed correctly JCW Acoustic Batten Systems will exceed the requirements set out in Part E of the Building Regulations.

With over 15 years of experience in installing all types of acoustic flooring systems, JCW Acoustic Flooring have the knowledge and expertise to ensure that floating floors are installed correctly giving complete peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

80mm acoustic battens are too small, can you supply custom sizes?

Our standard 80T Acoustic Batten Systems are made up of a 10mm pre-bonded resilient layer, that sits atop our 70mm wooden battens.

Our standard size supports any finished floor level you may need to install, but JCW Acoustic Flooring can also fulfil custom-sized orders.

This provides you with the ultimate flexibility and ensures you can fit any finished flooring type you need, alongside providing an exceptional reduction in impact sound levels.

For more information about the JCW 80T Acoustic Batten System, you can read the technical datasheet, or drop us an email with your project requirements- we’re more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Can I install services between 80T Acoustic Batten Systems?

Absolutely!

One of the unique benefits of the acoustic batten range is the ability to place services in the sections between the wooden battens.

To ensure the successful integration of services, we would advise that the position of all pipes and cables are detailed from the beginning in the plans. This is because services need to be positioned carefully to avoid detracting from acoustic insulation capabilities, especially at doorways.

When installing services at doorways, they should be at least 150mm away from walls and entry points to allow for perimeter support battens. Similarly, a 20mm space above should be maintained above services to cater for clearance and deflection of the technical, resilient layer.

Is there space for extra thermal insulation to lower energy costs?

Improving energy efficiency rating is more important than ever now, and contributes to reducing both costs and the impact we have on the environment.

As such, in domestic properties, adhering to the Future Homes standard will ensure new-build homes are future-proofed from 2025 onwards.

To assist with this, our installation guide assumes that properties will install either 25mm or 60mm mineral wool quilting between the battens, to increase the acoustic and thermal insulation values.

If you would prefer to use alternative insulation types, contact our team to discuss the technical implications. Fill in our enquiry form today and we will contact you to advise on suitability.

Can I use floor tiles with 80T Acoustic Batten Systems?

Our JCW 80T Acoustic Batten Systems are designed to be used alongside a wide range of finished floor options, from carpet to wooden floors to the floating chipboard layer.

If opting for tiling, sheet and tile vinyl, or rubber, however, you will need to obtain more specialist advice from the manufacturer to ensure the finished floor does not detract from the acoustic performance while retaining a high-quality finish.

You can either email us, and we will get back to you as soon as we can, or you can call us on 01204 548 400 to chat with a member of our team and find out the installation requirements for tiled or vinyl floors.
